Admin,

Actually there is one large spider found around our village that I have heard recently (I thought it was non-poisonous) can cause you some problems if bitten by one. I was told it can cause you to have a stroke, and especially bad for young children and old folks if bitten.

Bill,

I have a few more creature stories. One about almost running over a snake, the good luck/bad luck consequences, etc. I'll post a couple more this week for those interested in these stories of the creepy crawlies and cultural aspects and such.

I think they ate the thing! Not too long ago, while visiting family in Ubon, I ran over a snake (good size)with the Family fortuner. All of a sudden everyone in the vehicle was animated and yapping to get me to stop the car. I pretended non-comprehension and slowed but kept moving (Be damned if I wanted to get a close-up of a big snake. After calm returned and I was able to understand what all the commotion was about I surmised that I should have stopped the car so that my niece could have retrieved the snake and added it to the menu for that evening. Needless to say....I was very relieved that I had not stopped and even more so when we returned a short time later and the snake had vanished. slithered away or got bagged?

I just had a huge spider walk across my foot in the shower. So even without shoes, it's dangerous. Time to go out and buy the biggest can of bug spray I can, me thinks...

Old bushman's trick. Always shake your shoes out at arm's length before putting them on. Me? I wear sandals all the time. The little creepy crawlies can't hide out in them...so far.

I can't believe they ate it. I've seen neighbors kill snakes and dump their bodies in the road. But great story.

The cobra in my shoe gave me a little fright. I still get shivers down my spine thinking about what would have happened if I didn't check.
