Your post is full of irony, leaving me unsure of what you were trying to accomplish. You're self-righteously indignant at the perceived self-righteousness of others. There are 17,000 female sex workers, not 30,000. Is that a good thing? Child prostitution is not broad but it exists. How many child prostitutes must there be in order to call it a problem?

I don't know the Pattaya night scene, but I know the BKK Sukhumvit one very well. I know firsthand what prostitution does to a Thai woman, whether she starts as a teen or not (many do). Some seem to handle it ok, and a few I've known have found a decent guy and have been able to put it behind them. One I know of has 2 houses in Buriram, paid for by old farangs who bought them in her name and died. Others are still strung out on yaba (perhaps supported by a farang's money from overseas) and/or dealing with the emotional symptoms associated with post-traumatic stress disorder. Teen girls are not uncommon at the bars--the youngest I've met was 13. I asked one of the tuk-tuk guys soliciting customers for the Pethaburi Rd. massage parlors, and he said I could certainly get a 14 year-old if I wanted, just that she wouldn't be out in the fishbowl. Maybe, maybe not--I wasn't ready to risk getting caught in a sting in order to find out, however unlikely.

I could go on about the destruction happening to Isaan families, fueled at least in part by the sex industry.

Some of us guys use our maleness to conquer women, others to defend. I'm one of the latter; you seem to be the former. If so, your motive is naturally going to be to defend your actions. That's fine, but bashing the other side in a mean-spirited way only exposes our own hypocrisy.

"...There’s no shortage of Jesus freaks and bible thumpers in Thailand and Pattaya seems to attract them regularly for both laudable projects (working with orphanages, homeless and women’s groups..."

I don't consider missionaries work in orphanages laudable at all. Orphanages are just easy pickings for missionaries, as every child raised in a christian orphanage is guaranteed to be converted. The kids are too young to have their own views about religion.

Why raise children to be christian a predominately Buddhist country? If they want to help the kids, why do they have to indoctrinate them with bullshit, fundamentalist christianity? The answer is simple. They don't respect or care about other religions, and converting people is more important to a missionary then helping people.

Don't give a single baht to "Father Joe", or any christian charity group. I'm sick of hearing about how good the Mercy Centre is, when it's just a factory for churning out hundreds of catholics in a Buddhist neighbourhood. Remember, "Father" Joe was a missionary in northern Thailand before he was involved in his orphanages.

If you want to give aid, always give aid to a secular organisation. Since this is Thailand, a Buddhist organisation would be acceptable because there would be no efforts to convert anybody.

If you don't want your money used to print christian propaganda, to build churches, fund missionaries, or used in any type of proselytising, NEVER give money to a christian group.

Also "more-questionable quests (pilgrimages to “save” people", saving souls is more important than the social gospel, but you still need to do both.
They are worried about your eternity, but all you can do is constantly degrade them. Even though they are not precise with their facts, these things still do happen:

Even though the 8,9, or 10 year olds are selling candy, there are underage girls, that say that they are older, so they can work in the bars.

I wonder if the band members were the one's with the kids. Often, it is the really religious that are the true pedophiles. I have been to thailand many times. I have never seen children selling their bodies.

Did anyone else feel nauseous reading about these xtian bands? I mean, the whole thing is a farce! Rock n Roll is all about rebellion and having fun. These assholes have latched onto it and tried to turn it into something it is not. Reading the lyrics I agree with The Ghost. Stomach turning, repititious garbage. Why can't those people leave normal humanity alone? They are the mutants, not us red blooded males unafraid to walk down Walking Street with our eyes open. Glad they are in Ireland. That poor country can have them!
