The picture was probably taken in China. I have no problem eating insects, the crickets go quite nicely with a few beers.

well.. you are right so many (animal) that we eat in Thailand including wild animals that people do eat.. again if you really pay attention of our culture that so many people that come here due to the war around in Asian and have live here even since are not really thai .. so most of them bring their life style and their believed of how to live life with them.. so i am thai born and raised in Bangkok all of my generation are from Bangkok .. we never eat all kind of crawl and fly things .. the most that i can see that sell in the market are frogs and some rat ( but it from the rice field as i do remember when i was young and went to visit my grand parents who live in minburi ( out skirt from bangkok) but now is including as Bangkok area . i can see farmer take them to the market and sell them as the food .. that we talking about 40+ years ago but that all i can see that kind of wild things to eat and wild pig .. so most of the bugs as ( we call ) more and likely from the poor village in north side and Essan area.. i don't know now that they still eating as we got too many choice of variety of food to choose from. and beside how people believed as Buddhist believed it not make any sense that to kill other life just to improving your life.. it sad.. we all born and live and died . being human can do more than animal .. if to kill them ( animal) to make other ( human life to live ) i can see it worth it coz we can do more to help other.. but just to make your life better as ( it good for you???) i don't know that it fair to animal..we all born to do something to the nature so do the animal.. why don't we learn to live together and be happy .. life is too short for all of us.. just enjoyed to be alive..

Yes, it's a shame to see people tucking into the family pet. Even more so when you consider than it maybe someones grandfather reincarnated. Anyway, Knitpa, you are right, dog isn't a staple of the Thai diet. But, there are lots of other things that walk, crawl and fly that are put on the dinner table by certain sections of the Thai population. I've seen snake, rat, armidillo, squirrel, scorpions, locusts, moth larvae, water beetles, and frogs being happily consumed in this country. I've even eaten quite a bit of that myself and I've always been told it's good for me, it will make me strong. I hear that black dogs are favoured in Taiwan because they are considered to be virile. Bon appetite.

I would agree the pic is probably not from Thailand but some Thais do eat dog. The girl is wearing a jacket that seems far too heavy even for a Thai person who considers anything under 30 C freezing :-)

Ooh. Argh. The meat is there. It's well known amongst many. It's eaten in secret in other parts too, especially when people get hungry and they have very little money. Dogs from Thailand are also exported to Vietnam, apparently illegally. It's well known too which people in other countries like to partake. No answers yet. Give the others a chance. Wait.
