Name of Scam: Buy My Friend Dink Too

Scam Setup: You go into a go-go or other type of bar and you offer to buy a girl a drink. Instead of giving you an enthusiastic “Yes,” she decides to try to milk you like a mark by finding the nearest girl around and asking “You can buy my friend dink too?”

Another variation is that the girl doesn’t immediately ask for a drink for her friend but then “finds” her friend who she brings over and asks if you can buy her a drink too.

Scam Analysis: This isn’t the biggest scam out there but it is annoying. The girls get a portion of the cost of the drinks you buy them so they are encouraged to get you to buy as many as possible. When they ask you to buy their friend a drink it’s usually because they either owe their friend some money and they are repaying them via the money she will get from the bar when you buy the drink, she has a deal with the other girl to split the money, or she is trying to do her friend of a favor.

In many cases the second the drink arrives the friend will take off. If she does stick around now your lady drink bill is going to double since you can’t buy just one of them drinks.

Normally Targets: Guys in bars and go-gos

Prevention: Just say no. You don’t have to be an ass about it. If it makes you feel better you can always say “Oh, sorry. I like talking with you. I don’t want to talk with your friend.”
