Name of Scam: Hiding the Change

Scam Setup: You pay your bill in a bar (usually in go-go or beer bars) and you receive back a portion of your bill back in coin.

Scam Analysis: Let’s say your bill is 310 baht and you give the waitress a 500 baht note and you are given back a 100 baht note along with three twenty baht notes and under the twenty baht notes is three 10 baht coins. What the bar is hoping is that you grab your 100 baht note, look at the three twenties, and then leave one twenty baht note as the tip with the 30 baht hidden underneath making the total tip 50 baht.

Normally Targets: Anyone who frequents bars in tourist areas

Prevention: I scoop up the change given back to me, put the coins in my pocket and the bills in my wallet and then decide what amount I want to tip.
